Dixon Rowe is a good man and a good cop who keeps finding himself in bed with the enemy. After he picks up a young ex-con named Jaye Larson for stealing food, Dixon is seduced by the possibility of helping someone truly in need. He tells himself he’s assisting young Jaye out of the goodness of his heart—not because of how sexy Jaye is under all of the tattoos and defiance. But temptation entangles them as the malicious ghosts of Jaye's past returns to haunt their every step. Jaye’s ghosts are bad enough, but the demon from Dixon's past is real enough to put both of their lives in danger.
The author had a way of pulling the reader in even though I had a hard time with the story. However it is important to know this story will not be for everyone, and in fact is full of topics that could be considered triggers for some readers. It is angst ridden and at times darker than what I like my stories to be, but I am glad I was given the chance to read this book.
This intense, gritty and and at times heart breaking story had me riveted to every page. Flawed heroes Alaskan Troop Dixon Rowe and ex con Jaye Larson are thrown together under what could have been the worst of circumstances, but there's enough of a spark there to make them want to explore their strange attraction for each other. Both victims of abusive pasts, their attempts to heal one another involve heart wrenching conversations and at times some violently rough sex. This is not for the faint of heart, but the author does an excellent job of reaching into the men's psyches, exposing their innate fears under the hard exteriors and ultimately giving them the healing they so desperately long for. Top score from me!
