A Woman’s Persuasion by Jeanette Watts
The start was quite awkward – much telling, not much showing. More like a summary than a story. Once the story got moored off and on its way it was a delightful adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion to the 21st century with a queer twist. Frightening true in many details. Liberation is still only a word in many circles. The writing is very accomplished, but not always quite fitting to a setting in the 21st century – at more than one occasion I was reminded of the original Regency English. In itself great, in a 21st century setting not so much. The character development of Anne was very well done.
