Hikaru always thought his classmate Rihito was kind of a snob, until he stumbles across Rihito secretly practicing a song in an empty classroom. Hikaru agrees to become Rihito's music tutor, and with each lesson the two boys grow closer. But when Hikaru realizes that he's fallen for Rihito, will they stay classmates or become something more?

My Rate: 9 (amzn.to/48UV1uD)

If you're a fan of Asumiko Nakamura's distinctive style, you might approach a new series with a little bit of delicious apprehension—her work can often be intense! However, the first two volumes of this series, focusing on the high school life of Hikaru and Rihito, deliver something wonderfully classic: a sweet and utterly charming teenager love story. What really elevates this experience is the artwork. Nakamura's art is already stunning in black and white, but the fact that the first volume was adapted into an anime was a major bonus. Getting to see the world and characters in full color truly allowed me to appreciate the depth and beauty of her unique artistic talent. Hikaru and Rihito may be young, but their love story is anything but trivial. Their bond feels genuinely deep, and their relationship has to navigate the ordinary yet significant challenges that come with being young adults figuring out their future. It's a story that is simply sweet, comforting, and good. It's the perfect read if you're looking for a dose of wholesome, heartfelt romance without unnecessary drama.
