Director: Rob Williams

Writer: Rob Williams (written by)

Genre: Comedy

Plot: Rob Williams, the director of Long-Term Relationship, Back Soon and 3-Day Weekend, brings us a hilarious addition to the gay holiday genre.

The holidays get overly festive as Olaf "Gunn" Gunnunderson (Keith Jordan), an out-and-proud gay college student, crawls back into the closet to survive the holidays with his parents (hilarious performances by Derek Long & Kelly Keaton). He keeps his cool as his quirky Midwestern hale and hearty parents try to set him up with his high school sweetheart, Abby (Hallee Hirsh). But when his boyfriend, Nathan (Adamo Ruggiero), shows up at their doorstep unannounced, Gunn must put on a charade to keep the relationship a secret. With pressure mounting from all sides, will Gunn come out before the truth does?

I'm now quite used to a Rob Williams' comedy, and in this word there is all the reasons why I like them, they are COMEDY. I know, when I push the play button on the DVD that I'm going to see a good romance, with nice characters, maybe with some sexy scenes, but above all a love story with an happily ever after. In Make the Yuletide Gay maybe there aren't sexy scene, if not some sweet kisses, but all the other elements are there. I think that with this one Rob Williams really tried to film a "classical" movie, a Christmas comedy. Sometime the supporting characters, a fantastic Derek Long in the role of Gunn's father (it's strange to see him in a not gay role...) and a impossible motherly but so warm Kelly Keaton, Gunn's mother, steal the scene to the younger and gayer Gunn and Nathan, and so, truth be told, this is more a family comedy than a gay themed comedy, but this is not a complaint. I often wonder why Rob Williams is not able to go out the small budget movie circuit, everytime I see one of his movie, I have always the feeling that the set is someone else home, borrowed to the crew for the filming; there are so many other movie that haven't the potential and the nice script of one by Rob Williams, but instead have the money... It's so difficult to understand that the fans of the gay themed movie want and need nice comedies in their life?

I saw this movie a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it quite a lot. It's obvious that the project was a labor of love, with totally committed actors who gave it their all. The parents are especially funny, but all the performances are winners.

Yes, I chose to post it now since I think it's a perfect movie to see in this period of the year. Elisa

I watch Degrassi:The Next Generation. Adamo had a role in the show for a number of years.

I couldn't find this movie on my online rental service, so I am looking to bid on it at ebay.

Thank you for posting about it, Elisa!

For me they were all new other than Derek Long (that has a very good role), and I'm sure to know Nathan/Adamo's parents but don't remember where I saw them. Don't you have Netflix? I always list that link because it has always the movie I feature. Elisa

I have Zip, which is similar to Netflix. Maybe Zip will get this movie eventually.

It was a light comedy, and totally deprived of angst for once :-) Elisa
