Paul Lisicky (born July 9, 1959) is an American novelist and memoirist. From 1995 until 2010, his partner was the writer Mark Doty. They were married in 2008 and divorced in 2013. As Paul told me in 2012: "Mark and I have separated after 16 years together. We're still close, of course, and maybe there's something to say about all that. Maybe one could have a real life romance, and there could be more life to come beyond that"

Paul Lisicky grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He earned both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in English from Rutgers University, then received his Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. While a student at Iowa, he won a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. He also received awards from the James Michener/Copernicus Society, the Henfield Foundation, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, where he was twice a winter Fellow. He is the author of the novel "Lawnboy," the memoir "Famous Builder" and two forthcoming books: "The Burning House" (a novel, 2011) and "Unbuilt Projects" (short prose pieces, 2012). He has taught creative writing at Cornell University, The University of Houston, Antioch University, Sarah Lawrence College, Rutgers–Newark and New York University, in addition to summer writing programs including the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Nebraska Summer Writers Conference, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, and the Indiana Summer Writers Conference.

He currently lives in New York City.

"Lawnboy is, quite simply, the real thing, a novel of mystery and great beauty." --Michael Cunningham

They all thought I was good-natured, upright and responsible, generous, affectionate, and kind, and of course I could be those things, but there was much more to me than that, a side that unnerved even myself, and this side included William.

Seventeen-year-old Evan's adventure begins with mowing a neighbor's lawn, a summer job that leads him into an unpredictable world of desire and betrayal. Estranged from his parents and his older brother, he moves in with forty-one-year-old William and begins a disastrous series of attempts to make a new home. Must he make a choice between his family and desire? First published to wide acclaim in 1999, Lawnboy wanders the lush and tumultuous landscape of the early 1990s, its south Florida setting as fertile and troubling as Evan's inner life.
